Remembering Ron Mintz

It is with heavy heart that we must report that longtime Horsham Lion Ron Mintz passed away at his home on Friday, November 12th.

It was Ron's wishes not to have an obituary, funeral, or memorial service.  There was no notice in the newspapers.

Ron was one of the founders of our yearly golf tournament, which has been a tremendous fundraiser over the years.  He was also a member of the Horsham Park and Recreation board.  He had been appointed by the Governor to serve on the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, and proudly served in that role for 25 years.

As you may know, he's been divorced from his wife Minna for some time.  Ron had no children.

We've spoken with Hazel Downes, Ron's personal assistant and dear friend for 40+ years.  Her grief is deep, and I'm sure your sympathy will be appreciated.  She is compiling a collection of anecdotes, stories, memories, and photos of Ron, and asks that you contribute whatever you feel belongs in this collection.  Send submissions to the Lions (contact information above), and we will make sure Hazel gets them.

Help us remember Ron for all the good works he did with joy and happiness.

Lions Provide Thanksgiving Dinners

The Horsham Lions Club has purchased $300 worth of Thanksgiving Dinners for several local families in need. Lion John Campisi has been delivering these meals on behalf of the Lions for many years.

White Cane Day 2010

White Cane Day was held on Saturday, November 6th at the Wawa in Horsham. We had overwhelming support this year, with upwards of 8 Lions working at the same time! What a change from years’ past!

We had our largest one-day collection ever on that day, thanks to the help of the Lions who came out to help. We handed out literature, coloring books, and even managed to interest someone in attending one of our meetings that day! Pictured L to R are Elena Logiovine, President Tara Smith, and Carlo Logiovine. Below are photos of Steve Girone, Amy Reichenbach, and Ted and Shirley Truver.

Our Lions enjoyed a fun night out at the District Rally in East Greenville last Tuesday, November 9, 2010.

Attendees were entertained by Glenn E. Miller, the BIG One Man Band, and many lucky winners left with a fabulous door prize, like the ones shown here, prepared by Lions Elena and Carlo Logiovine.

In attendance were: Shirley and Ted Truver, Eileen, John and Bob Bill, Rose and Ed Kaminski, Tara and Mike Smith, and Steve Girone (not shown).
